The AOC Problem

A lot of people like AOC and that has meant she has become a political lightning rod and also a huge fundraising machine for left leaning organizations. We seem to be forgetting the latter in policy discussions.

You can say what you want about Jimmy Dore and his idea to bring Medicare for All. It surely would fail — there’s no question about it.

However, some in good faith are suggesting that it was completely useless gesture. I think that take is a foolish mistake.

Dore’s “bad idea” was only filling a void of frustration left by AOC’s own fundraising machine and the numerous organizations running to her defense. We all saw the primary. They had money, time, and resources — and what have we seen develop?

The Progressive Caucus not even putting an alternative to Nancy Pelosi’s speakership.

We should be seeing messaging for these ideas from these organizations and politicians who receive a lot of money. The opposition hasn’t wasted any time in getting ready for the next fight. Since Bernie’s loss in the primary — both Biden and Obama have had numerous national appearances slamming “defund the police” as a “bad slogan” all over the country.

There is a lack of imagination and strategy clearly on the left yet they are fundraising a lot of money. Someone needs to point that out.
